Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition marked by intensely pruritic, hyperkeratotic nodules distributed on the trunk and extremities. Severe itching contributes to scratching, bleeding, thickening of nodules, and scarring. PN can significantly reduce quality of life, affect sleep and mental health, and hamper participation in activities of daily living and social interaction. Until recently, there were no approved treatments for PN, but one agent has been granted a PN indication, and others are in late-stage development. In this activity, based on a recent live symposium, a panel of experts offers personal guidance on the pathophysiology, burden, and new and promising treatment options for PN.
