We've all heard them and maybe even believed them. They're religious clichés that roll off the tongue -- or share easily on social media -- and seem to capture a complicated facet of faith in some helpful way. But under biblical scrutiny, statements like "God won't give you more than you can handle" and "God helps those who help themselves" actually miss the mark. Separating fact from fiction can be difficult here because these beliefs arise from misapplied truths. However, it's when we drill down to the truth that we find effective help and real freedom.
