The author of Hebrews continues to help us rejoice that Jesus is our great high priest. In the Old Testament, the high priests were chosen from men for the sake of men. In their own weakness, they dealt gently with sinners, yet none of them chose the office for themselves; they were appointed by God. As God makes plain in Psalm 2 and Psalm 110, Jesus also was appointed by God to be our great high priest in the order of Melchizedek.
