St. Paul once again returns to a Corinthian slogan: "All things are lawful." This cannot be the guiding principle for the use of Christian freedom because not all things are helpful, and not all things build up the neighbor. The individual Christian conscience can give thanks for all meat, knowing that everything is the Lord's. Yet if an unbeliever points out that the meat has been used in idol worship, then for the sake of that person's conscience, the Christian rightly abstains from eating to give no credence to idolatry.
