Our text will be Susan Murcott’s First Buddhist Women: Poems and Stories of Awakening, a book on the Pali text Therigatha, a collection of poems by early Buddhist nuns. This talk focuses on Mahapajapati Gotami  the foster-mother of the Buddha who was the first woman to seek ordination and became the first bhikkhuni (Buddhist nun)..
