We all will face circumstances that can never be erased from our life’s story: The ugly divorce. The betrayal of trust in a relationship. The far-too-early death of a loved one. The life-altering medical diagnosis. The financial collapse. Unrelenting mental and emotional distress. And so, what do we do when adversity, fear, and pain are louder than the voice of the Lord? When they challenge the validity of the covenant promises we read in Scripture? We must learn how to strengthen ourselves in the Lord through every adversity we face. This is the story of David, among others in the Scripture. Theirs are not relics of the past; they are timeless calls to action to develop strength of spirit and maturity of character through adversity.
