10/08/17 - Matthew 3:13-17 Last week we ended with Saul being baptized which is a ritual initiation announcing  our commitment to Christ & His people The Church. This week we’ll see Jesus identify with sinners by meeting them at the place of their confession of sins and being washed clean.  Jesus is baptized to identify with the ones whose sins He will one day pay for.  Just as baptism symbolizes going down in the water as dying; and coming up out of the water as a new & resurrected life, before Jesus begins His ministry He fore-shadows His own death & resurrection.  When we come to Jesus in faith, we find shelter from the storm; The Local Church is part of God’s plan to keep us out of the rain, and baptism is our identifying with Jesus who’s already identified with us.      Vs. 13–14 - Down To The River Vs. 15 - Let It Be So Vs. 16 - Jesus Was Baptized Vs. 17 - God Takes Pleasure in Obedience Benediction adapted from 2 Corinthians 5:17–20 “. . .
