Sinopsis
The statistics are alarming: 1 in 4 women is abused by a partner; 1 in 3 women is raped, and perpetrators are overwhelmingly male. So why do they abuse and rape? Is it society? Women and how they behave? How we raise sons? Who are these abusers, why do they do it, and what can we do about it? Phyllis Frank, Associate Executive Directors of VCS of Rockland County, New York joins us for a rousing discussion about the men who abuse (women who abuse are another show). Ms. Frank started a batterer program in 1978 and has worked non-stop to work locally and nationally on issues of domestic violence offenders, accountability and batterer programs, even co-authoring several articles that were published in Social Work: Journal of the National Association of Social Workers. She was appointed by NY Governor Mario Cuomo’s Commission on Domestic Violence, and has been co-chair of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism.
