Cruz grew up in Houston, earning his bachelor's at Princeton University and going on to Harvard Law School. Cruz spent the next five years as a partner at one of the nation’s largest law firms, where he led the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national Appellate Litigation practice. He has authored more than 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and argued 43 oral arguments, including nine before the U.S. Supreme Court. After his private practice work, Cruz served as an adviser on the 2000 presidential campaign of George W. Bush. In 2012 he won election to the U.S. Senate with the support of the Tea Party, and took office the following year. Sen.
