The Agony of Defeat Most of you remember the phrase made famous by a major news network in the coverage of sports, “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.” Some experienced the agony of defeat this past weekend, as their professional s  team lost in the playoffs. As we journey through this life, we encounter victories and defeats, physically and spiritually. Handling victory does not seem to be as difficult as handling defeat. I believe that in part defeat is difficult because, any time we compete in anything, we take a risk. In any challenge, we risk being defeated. However, for anything to improve in our lives, we need to take some sort of risk no matter how small. The Bible tells us to put our faith and trust in God and to go forward in our lives, even if it involves taking a risk. Philippians 3:13-14 states, “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.
