Fr Tony Percy says the need to talk and the need to listen are equally profound. These two human needs come together in what is known as the sacrament of confession, penance, reconciliation. Jesus breathed on his disciples and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. For those whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven. For those whose sins you retain, they are retained (John 20). When things go wrong – and sometimes quite seriously – we need to talk, be honest and have a priest who will listen and forgive.
