al-Mugheera Ibn Shu’ba رضي الله عنه (S65) When al-Mugheera رضي الله عنه passed away, Jarir Ibn Abdullah رضي الله عنه said to the Kufans: “Ask for Afiyah for your governor [i.e Mugheera رضي الله عنه], because he used to love Afiyah”. The Kufans grieved over Mugheera’s رضي الله عنه passing. Afiyah is a means of protection, security and forgiveness, it aids us in this life and the next. It was this that our Messenger ﷺ advised his uncle, Abaas رضي الله عنه to ask for. No one has been given anything better after certainty, than Afiyah. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى loves being asked for Afiyah, over anything. During his lifetime, Mugheera رضي الله عنه advised not to wail over the deceased. When one of the Ansar, Qarza Ibn Ka’ba رضي الله عنه passed away, the people wailed. Mugheera رضي الله عنه said: “What has wailing got to do with Islam? I heard the Messenger ﷺ say: ‘The one who is wailed over, will be punished’.”. (Punishment here meaning a mental discomfort is to be felt by the deceased. Excessive praise i
