Sinopsis
Recent attacks on members of the Indian community in Ireland are "despicable" and "diminish all of us". That’s the view of President Michael D Higgins, who was speaking following recent attacks on Indians in Ireland. President Higgins condemned the attacks, saying they "stand in stark contradiction to the values that we as people hold dear". This Sunday’s India Day festival at Farmleigh in Dublin’s Phoenix Park will not go ahead because of fears over safety. The Indian embassy in Dublin recently warned citizens “take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours”. Are unsavoury, racially motivated incidents against Indians confined to Dublin? Alan Morrissey was joined by Shazia Shaikh, an Indian woman living in Shannon. She says that she and her family have been the victims of racially driven bullying and anti-social behaviour.
