We have come to the "hinge" of the book of Samuel – the central turning point. There are three songs in the book of Samuel – Hannah's thanksgiving at the beginning – David's lament over Saul and Jonathan in the middle – and David's thanksgiving at the end. It is worth noting that Hannah's Thanksgiving had been sung more than 80 years earlier – just after the birth of Samuel. Now Samuel is dead – and still Hannah's prayer has not been answered: "The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; against them he will thunder in heaven. The LORD will judge the ends of the earth; he will give strength to his king and exalt the power of his anointed." Do you sometimes feel as though God is slow to fulfill his promises?
