Joel 2:1-6 God commands Joel to blast the alarm in order to strick fear in the hearts of the people of the nation; in order that they would return to God and God would relent of His all consuming plague. The overall theme of this segment is: be afraid, be stirred up, be shocked at the horror that ravages the land and threatens to destroy the people of God.
