With the weather finally warming up, the beautiful scenery surrounding us has begin to come to life, providing not only ideal backdrop for photos but also an abundance of pollen and a variety of other allergens. Each time a person is exposed to an allergen, the immune system builds a response in the form of releasing histamines from protective cells in the body called mast cells. The histamines bind to receptors located in the blood vessels, causing them to increase in size, which in turn leads to physical symptoms of redness, swelling, itching, and changes in secretions.
