Compounding Oveview (Re-air)
26/03/2014 Duración: 04minCompounded medications are something that we prepare daily here at island drug, but are not available at every pharmacy, though in my opinion they should be. Compounded preparations are essentially customized prescriptions to meet an individual’s need. Just as every person is different, so are their medications needs (ie; Two people on the same medication, only one strength is available on the market at the time and it works for person, but not the other). A compounding pharmacy, such as Island Drug, and the patient’s physician could create a medication dose specifically for that individual.

The Benefits of Water
04/03/2014 Duración: 05minDrink up to 8 glasses of water a day, a commonly known and even more commonly ignored aspect of healthy living. Whenever we think of health, diet, or recuperating from illness, we rarely think of the significant role of water consumption. Instead we think of diet, healthy foods, miracle foods, etc. More than all this, drinking sufficient quantity of water everyday has a vast number of health benefits that we often ignore. Organ Donation and Transplant
12/02/2014 Duración: 07minAt this moment, more than 105,000 people in the U.S. are waiting for an organ. Four thousand more people are added to the national waiting list every day. Each of these people is in desperate need of a kidney, liver, heart or other organ. More than 6,500 people a year – that’s about 18 a day – die before that organ ever becomes available. Organ donors are always in short supply. There are far more people in need of a transplant than there are people willing to donate an organ. Most of the organs that become available come from deceased donors. When you fill out an organ donor card with your driver’s license, you’re agreeing to donate all or some of your organs if you die. A smaller number of organs come from healthy people. About 6,000 transplants from living donors are performed each year. You might have wondered about donating an organ – either to a friend or relative who needs an organ right now, or by filling out an organ donor card. Before you decide to become an organ donor, here is some important

New Sugar Warnings
05/02/2014 Duración: 02minThose of us walking around with a sweet tooth got more bad news this week. A study by the CDC that was just published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine concluded that adding sugar to the diet can more than double someone's risk of heart related death. Now on the surface this seems like nothing new. Medical professionals have long thought dietary sugar to be a serious issue because it promotes chronic diseases like diabetes and obesity; however, this research suggest that adding sugar to a diet regardless of other health problems increases the risk of death from heart disease. We are not talking about the sugar that naturally occurs in food like the sugar of a fruit; we are taking about refined sugar added to a food product.
