This week I'd like to bring attention to a frequently overlooked disease called pertussis. Often called “whooping cough,” the disease sounds like a varient of the common cold, more of an inconvenience than anything else. This is generally the case for adults; however, for young children and infants it can be severe and life threatening. While pertussis is a vaccine-preventable disease, since the early 1980s there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases.
