Meet Nathaniel Moore: My life has been filled with amazing experiences and I am completely recovered from substance abuse. I have been working at Independence Place Charlotte for 6 years, 3 years volunteering and 3 years as Operations Director. We are an Independent Living Community that provides a safe, clean and affordable place for community members to live. We have a diverse community with people from all walks of life.BUT, it wasn't always that way, born and raised in West Memphis, Arkansas as the 13th of 15 children. I joined the Navy in 1975. A successful Navy career ended in a court martial in 1999. Incarcerated for 9 months, discharged with a "Bad Conduct discharge" - losing all retirement compensation and benefits. Served with divorce papers while incarcerated, I completed my sentence and tried to start life over. Married again with a son, I was deeply depressed while acting okay. Using drink and drugs to ease the pain, I spiraled deeper and deeper out of control until I lost everything. Lo
