“He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him.” (1 Thessalonians 5:10 NIV) The new believers at Thessalonica knew Jesus was coming back, they just didn’t know when. Their founding pastor, the Apostle Paul, counsels them that the point is not to know when, but to be ready when. And thereby he solves two major issues: worry about death, and the timing of Jesus’ return from heaven. We don’t need to worry about death or the end of the world…if we are safe in Christ. We can’t know when Christ will return, but we can be ready.
