I mentioned the basilisk in my previous episode, here's a little more historical background on their place in legends and myths from the Middle Ages. In addition to creating the Sahara desert, they have appeared throughout Europe over the centuries, and were brought back into the public eye, albeit as fiction, in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
