Should we take risks in life? Or should we do everything we can to avoid risks at all costs? Our world, our country, all the way down to our families are grappling with this question on how to live. At this time it is in the midst of a pandemic disease known as Covid-19. But truth be told, this is an age old question that has been grappled with by philosophers, kings, and rulers throughout time. Solomon is said to be the wisest man that ever lived and he too grappled with these questions. Pastor Caleb Phelps recently completed a sermon series on the book of Ecclesiastes. He describes Solomon’s view of risk like this. “How are we supposed to live? Should we just play it safe and be as protected as possible? Should we go for the gusto? How are we supposed to live? And Solomon says, "Cast your bread upon the waters." Our problem is we don't cling to God's wisdom or live for God's purposes. We play it safe. We just do.
