The messianic expectation of God’s people is very evident in our text, this week. The original, Jewish audience has been looking forward to the day when God’s King would come to rule and reign. Had the day finally come? Even John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus, is wondering if he is the one who is to come. Here, we see that Jesus came to do what God intended, not what people expected.
