God created us to live in covenant (read obedient) relationship with him; the Biblical recipe for happiness and meaning is to know God and to live in the transforming power of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Sacred Individualism not only ran rampant in Israel, it runs rampant in our lives, the lives of our families, our churches, our communities, our nation, and our world as well. Billions and billions of people, whether they call themselves Christians or not, live as though they are their own gods. While we don’t set up idols, offer sacrifices, and bow to them, in we do worship several counterfeit gods: success, stuff, satisfaction, security, significance – we are Sacred Individualists. If you want to see a difference in your friends, your family, your co-workers, your church, and ultimately your world, you must realize that difference begins with you. When you de-establish your co-regency with God and abdicate your throne, you can begin to build his kingdom in all those places.
