The first person singular in Psalm 40 ("I", "me", "my") is in reality the voice of Jesus. Every word spoken in this Psalm is spoken by and is in reference to the person of Jesus Christ in his own going down into death and being lifted up out of the horrible pit of hell and the grave. When he says in verses 3: "many shall see and fear and shall trust in the Lord," what are they seeing, what are they fearing, and what are they trusting? John 9 and Isaiah 6 hold the answers.
