1.  “EXPIATION”   We may define sin as “any failure to conform to the moral law of God in action, attitude, or nature.” (Wayne Grudem, “Systematic Theology” 1994)   Hebrews 9:26a-28 (ESV) He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.   2. “PROPITIATION”   Romans 3:22-26 (ESV) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
