In this teaching, we are going to see that the way that the God of Israel brought the children of Israel out of Egypt when they put the blood of the lamb on the doorposts, was that this was done through a threshold covenant. What is a threshold covenant? We will learn more about this. Historically, the threshold covenant was associated with an individual household. Whenever a person came through the door, they crossed over the threshold of the door. When formally making a covenant with a person crossing over the threshold, you would slay an animal and then have a covenant meal with them. This concept of a family threshold covenant was later extended to the community. In the community form of a threshold covenant, it was represented by a temple that was built for the community. We will also see how Jerusalem itself is regarded as the threshold for the God of Israel.
