(Ephesians 5:21-33) Marriage is hard because love is hard. What makes the so hard is our selfishness. God, who is pure love, knows that to truly experience love we need to let go of our own self-interest and give ourselves fully to one another. Christ's example not only shows us how but empowers us to be able to give and receive such love.
