Today, we’re talking about mechanical thrombectomy with Dr. Rocco Armonda, Director of Neuroendovascular Surgery and Surgical Co-Director of the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Mechanical thrombectomy is a breakthrough procedure to quickly and effectively remove blood clots from the brains of stroke patients using a stent retriever device. The procedure often is used when the patient is suffering a large-vessel occlusion. Host: Dr. Armonda, what is a large-vessel occlusion?
