Considering the call of Christ to Levi, to “follow Him” (Luke 5:27-32), we are challenged as “fellow followers” to reach outside of the “norms” of our lives to take the Gospel to the various cultures of the twenty-first century. The controversy created by Jesus’ to call a “tax collector” draws a clear distinction between “religion” and the Gospel and gives us a primary directive to press into others’ lives with relevance, love and purpose.
