What does it mean to have our "loins girt about with truth," to have "on the breastplate of righteousness (justice)," and to "have feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace"? Conventional interpretations have dogmatically affirmed that what the Apostle has in view is the armor of the Roman soldiers who guarded him in prison. But this is not the case. What Paul is describing is the armor of the Divine Warrior. And he is commanding us to take up the armor of this Divine Warrior so that we might stand against the Evil One and the evil he perpetuates.
