Asthma is a common, chronic, and heterogeneous disease that can result in poor quality of life and severe, life-threatening exacerbations despite standard controller therapy. Type 2 inflammation, mediated by cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13, occurs in about 50% of patients with asthma and has emerged as a unifying feature of classically defined allergic diseases and a range of other inflammatory diseases.
