  • #172 "Sometimes it Feels Like the Whole World is Falling Apart"

    04/12/2017 Duración: 27min

DiabetesPowerShow #172 "Sometimes it feels like the whole world is falling apart." Special guest: Dr. William Polonsky This episode of DiabetesPowerShow #172 was recorded on Monday, November 6, 2017. This show is not directly related to Diabetes. It was, however, inspired by emails from a significant number of DPS listeners, going through some very hard times as a result of recent tragic events. We made the decision to postpone the release of this show. We felt that it was too soon to publish some of the content. One of the terrible events happened only 24 hours before we recorded the show. We share listener experiences with the recent hurricanes in Texas, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands, and the mass-shootings in Las Vegas (our home base) and Texas. This episode is dedicated to and in support of the people who continue to feel the effects of these tragic events. Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you. God bless you all.

On today’s DiabetesPowerShow, Charlie Cherry, Chris Daniel, and Lori Cherry welcome Doris Hobbs. Doris Hobbs has a passion for the fashion from a very glamorous time in our history. At age 33, the first thing Doris realized after been diagnosed as a Type One Diabetic, was that she had two options: She could allow it to control her life, or find the unbinding courage from within the tragedy; She chose courage. The next few days were consumed with perplexed emotions, mostly of denial, pooled from the self-belief that she could be a rare case and mysteriously cured. She was given a new role and lifestyle as a Type One Diabetic. She immediately chose to not wear it as a sympathy garment; instead, she would rather re-fashion how others perceive such a life-alt

  • #164 ALTERNATE SITE TESTING

    14/03/2017 Duración: 43min

On today’s DiabetesPowerShow, Charlie Cherry, Chris Daniel, and Lori Cherry talk about alternate site testing. How can we lessen or eliminate the pain associated with finger sticks? To help us with that question, we welcome Dr. Christopher Jacobs, the CEO and Chief Research Engineer for Genteel. He promises that the Genteel Lancing Device will challenge everything you’ve come to believe about a lancing device. During the show, Charlie, for the first time, successfully accomplished alternate site testing, using the Genteel device. The camera clicked, as he learned that this new lancing device allows you to poke your skin once, and return to the same spot throughout the day, and draw blood without actually piercing your skin again. The unit creates a vacuum, so you can flip the lancet in the device (the sharp part) away from the skin, and do multiple blood draws from just one poke. He successfully drew blood 4 times during the show, but only stuck himself once...Charlie is now a fan of the Genteel. Dr. Christop

    16/09/2016 Duración: 55min

A letter from a DiabetesPowerShow listener... Hello Diabetes Power Show, A quick note to say thank you for the time you take to educate the diabetic community. My wife and I have learned so much from your pod cast and guests over the past six months. I am a type 1 diabetic who uses an Omnipod insulin pump and CGM. I developed pancreatitis five years ago and was required to go into the hospital every three weeks to have stents placed into my pancreatic ducts to move forward with simple life activities. After eighteen months, my doctor at the University of Colorado linked me to an excellent team at the University of Minnesota to perform a Total Pancreatectomy and Auto Islet Transplantation. The surgery was 17 hours and my islet cells were transplanted into my liver. I had a 40% chance the cells would take and I would not need insulin or be diabetic. I was also informed before the surgery that I had tested positive for a GAD antibody and there was an increased chance that my system would attack the transplanted

Very few podcasts that involve 2 or more co-hosts survive more than a few episodes. We started in the very beginning of the new technology called ‘podcasting’.
