This week on The Real Minishow, Sam and Stormy are adjusting to their new normals—Sam has a job she loves, and Stormy is finally free from nightly homework. Hello audience. We are back from a bit of a break. But good news: STORMY IS FINISHED WITH SCHOOL FOREVER. That’s right, we’re back and this is the very first episode with the Dr. Stormy Skies. Hooray!  This week, we’re reviewing the Shudder Original Horror Movie, Frewaka.  Frewaka is a haunting 2024 Irish folk horror film. I’m sure everyone has been on the edge of their seats waiting to hear that epic conclusion.  In other news, we’re back this week to review Talk to Me one of the best horror movies of 2022.  Talk to Me follows a group of teenagers as they pay the ultimate price for playing with the occult. Because how many times do we have to tell you guys: THE OCCULT IS NOT A TOY. 

In a tragic turn of events, The Stormy Skies forgot her Stanley Cup at Yoga and cannot have a sip of water until it’s returned to her. Sam then recounts some tales of woes from her day job of working with children…but thank goodness none of these children are like Miles because in today’s episode of Bly Manor we learn a little more as to why Mile is the way Miles is.  Dani tells the children she forgives them for locking her in the closet but admits she doesn’t believe their explanation. In a flashback to prep school, Miles becomes increasingly unstable—starting fights and killing small animals—leading to his expulsion. It’s implied he got himself expelled on purpose after receiving a letter from Flora that reads, “Come home.” Back in the present, Dani assigns the children chores, giving Hannah and Jamie a much-needed break. This movie was insane.  The Coffee Table (La mesita del comedor) is a darkly comedic Spanish film from 2022, directed by Caye Casas and co-written by Casas and Cristina Borobia. Starring David Pareja and Estefanía de los Santos, this black comedy delivers a sharp, unsettling exploration of domestic life gone awry.

We have officially moved out of the Hill House and are ready to move into Bly Manor.  The Haunting of Bly Manor is a gothic horror drama from Mike Flanagan, inspired by the works of Henry James, particularly The Turn of the Screw. Set in the 1980s, the series follows Dani Clayton, an American au pair hired to care for two orphaned children, Flora and Miles, at the eerie Bly Manor. As she settles into the grand yet unsettling estate, Dani discovers that Bly is filled with secrets, tragic histories, and lingering ghosts—both literal and emotional.  Episode 1 introduces Dani as she arrives at Bly Manor, eager to start fresh after a mysterious past haunts her. She meets housekeeper Hannah Grose, chef Owen, gardener Jamie, and the peculiar yet charming children, Flora and Miles. While the manor seems idyllic at first, strange occurrences begin—unlocked doors, unsettling reflections, and whispered warnings from Flora to stay inside at night. Wow, is it just me, or was February busier than usual this year? It’s been like a month since we’ve had a moment to sit down and talk about Smile 2.  Smile 2 (2024) follows pop star Skye Riley, who begins experiencing terrifying hallucinations and a sinister smiling entity after witnessing a traumatic event. As the curse spreads, Skye must uncover the entity’s origins before it consumes her. We also discuss the Oscars and what a great year it was for horror. 

This week, we’re wrapping up the first installment of our Flanagan rewind with the series finale of Haunting of Hill House.  Steven and Hugh find Luke unconscious in the Red Room, where Steven, Theo, and Shirley become trapped and experience haunting visions as the house tries to consume them. Nell’s ghost saves them, revealing that the Red Room is the house’s "stomach," disguising itself to lull its victims. The siblings, regretful for failing Nell, are reassured of their love for each other. Olivia’s ghost attempts to keep them inside, but Hugh persuades her to let them go, promising to stay. As Shirley and Theo rush Luke to the hospital, Hugh fulfills his promise by joining Olivia and Nell in the Red Room. We’re back this week with a horror movie review for one we’ve been excited to watch: Strange Darling. Strange Darling (2023) is a thriller from writer-director JT Mollner, starring Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, Barbara Hershey, and Ed Begley Jr. Set in rural Oregon, the film follows a one-night stand that spirals into a deadly game of cat and mouse. Told in six nonlinear chapters, it unfolds as a dramatization of a serial killer’s most infamous crime in the Western United States.

We are so close to the finale of Haunting of Hill House and everything is starting to ramp up. The jump scares. The family drama. The child murder.  Wait…the what? Woot woot! This week we are reviewing the Oscar-nominated horror movie The Substance. The Substance is a 2024 body horror film from Coralie Fargeat, who serves as writer, director, co-editor, and co-producer. The story follows Elisabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), a once-iconic celebrity grappling with the realities of aging in a ruthless industry. After being dismissed by her producer (Dennis Quaid) for no longer fitting the mold, Elisabeth turns to a black-market drug that transforms her into a younger version of herself (Margaret Qualley). But this newfound youth comes at a terrifying cost, unraveling in ways no one could have anticipated.

We’re a little late starting this year but we are finally back after two snow storms and the winter holidays. We can’t think of a better way to jump into the new year than by watching the drama unfold within the Craine family, which is exactly what we’re doing this week.  Steven and Hugh search for Luke, uncovering dark truths about their family's connection to Hill House. Hugh reveals the ghosts are real and the Crains are the house's prey. Shirley and Theo race to save Luke, reconciling after a ghostly encounter with Nell. Meanwhile, Luke's attempt to burn down Hill House is thwarted by the vengeful spirit of Poppy Hill. Can the family escape its deadly grip?

Merry Christmas to all you ghouls listening today! We’re finally tackling Terrifier 3 for this year’s Christmas special. Don’t say we never do anything for ya filthy animals. No matter how hard it is to trudge through these movies sometimes, we love doing it for you guts. That was a typo. But it works.  Terrifier 3 is a 2024 American supernatural slasher film with a Christmas theme, written, directed, and edited by Damien Leone. Serving as a sequel to Terrifier 2 (2022) and the third installment in the Terrifier franchise, the film stars David Howard Thornton, Lauren LaVera, Elliott Fullam, and Samantha Scaffidi. Set in the days leading up to Christmas, the story follows Sienna Shaw as she struggles to rebuild her life while being relentlessly pursued by Art the Clown and his sinister new accomplice, a possessed Victoria Heyes.

Welcome back to the Real Horrorshow Podcast. This week, we return to the Hill House for Episode 7: ‘Eulogy’. Hugh struggles to let go of Olivia, often speaking to her as if she’s alive. During her funeral, he makes amends with Theo and tries to reconnect with his children. In flashbacks, Mr. Dudley warns Hugh about Hill House’s dark history and urges Olivia, whose behavior grows erratic, to leave. After she threatens Hugh with a screwdriver, they agree she must go. Hugh later discovers William Hill’s bricked-up corpse in the walls and finds the Red Room unlocked during the final haunting. After the funeral, Olivia’s ghost attacks Luke, Hugh, and Theo. Luke vanishes, taking Shirley’s wallet and Theo’s car, deepening the family’s turmoil. We also briefly discuss the lack of horror games announced at the video game awards.

We’re back this week with another horror movie review! We’re excited to finally tackle the sleeper hit of 2024: In a Violent Nature. And at least one of us means that literally.  In a Violent Nature is a 2024 Canadian slasher film written and directed by Chris Nash, featuring performances by Ry Barrett, Andrea Pavlovic, and Lauren-Marie Taylor. Touted as an "ambient slasher," the film centers on a mute killer who is inadvertently resurrected from his grave in the remote Ontario wilderness by a group of teenagers. Once revived, he begins to stalk and murder them. Much of the narrative unfolds from the killer's unique perspective, offering an unsettling and immersive viewing experience.

There’s a storm coming to the Crain household in Episode 6 of The Haunting of Hill House. The episode alternates between a stormy night at Hill House, where young Nell disappears and later claims she was invisible to her family, and the present, as the Crains reunite for her funeral. Tensions boil over with secrets, arguments, and eerie occurrences, including Nell’s ghostly presence—the night peaks in chaos when her coffin inexplicably falls, leaving the family shaken.
