    In this episode, host Jane Marks sits down with geriatrics specialist Dr. Shirley M. Neitch, retired director of the Hanshaw Geriatric Center at Marshall University, to discuss the far-away, but involved caregiver – the long distance caregiver that must coordinate care from a distance away from their loved one. Dr. Neitch served as one of those long distance caregivers to her late mother, and brings a unique perspective in discussing her personal caregiving journey.  A fellow of the American College of Physicians, Neitch received her M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia. She served on the faculty of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University for 35 years, until her retirement in 2019. She was the director of the Maier Institute for Excellence in Therapeutics for Elders with Dementia. Her research has been published in a number of publications, including the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and the American Journal of the Medical Sciences, and she has been honored wi
