  • E212 | The Real Reason People Don’t Invest In Themselves Like They Should

    07/03/2022 Duración: 26min

None of us have an abundance of both time AND money. So why do some people invest in themselves while others fall back on the same excuses over and over again?    It’s simple- for those that don’t invest, either they don’t believe in a particular brand, the product or their own ability to put it to use.   For those that do, it comes down to understanding and appreciating the long game. Those who invest up front get the greatest returns.    Don’t believe me? Keep buying cheap appliances and furniture your whole life.    In this short episode, I’ll cover:   The reasons you should invest your own money and not rely on your school or employer to reimburse you How to reframe thinking about investing in yourself  Ways to ensure your investments pay massive dividends for your future   If you are ready to invest in yourself and / or diversify your investments, we have many options that will double, even triple what you put in financially.    One of the newest in person workshops we offer is our speak

  • E210 | Assertiveness: How to Ask for What You Want and Get What You Need

    21/02/2022 Duración: 01h06min

Assertiveness is key to getting what we want and/or need, but getting it wrong can cost us tremendously… “When we push too hard, or in an ineffective way, our counterparts may resist giving us the material outcomes we want or our relationships might fray. When we do not push hard enough, we fail to have our own needs met and risk undermining our own well‐being.” (Ames, 2008) So what do we do when we rely on assertion to get to our desired outcome but each person we interact with will define, interpret and react to it differently? On today’s episode we break down: What is assertiveness and how does it differ from aggressiveness? How can we properly align our assertive behavior with the situation? The bright side of assertiveness we’ve been neglecting  What (if any) is the difference in assertiveness for females vs. males? Tactics and strategies for being more assertive Speaking of assertiveness… We’ve been getting a lot of questions recently about how to improve communication in personal relationship

Truly objective perception isn’t just difficult, it’s nearly impossible. That means everyday, despite your best efforts, people will interpret your actions, words, and behaviors differently than you intended.  It’s the same reason why there are Michelin star restaurants certain people love and others hate; Nobel prize winners some revere and others think are a hack.  While we can’t control people’s perceptions, the more we understand them, the more we can influence them…  Today’s episode is all about acknowledging and appreciating the multitude of factors that affect perception so we can bridge the gap with our communication and work to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings.  We cover: The 8+ variables affecting perception & how to identify them The ONLY tool that can help bridge a perceptual gap   The Better Than Average Effect + Theory of Mind: why they matter Two ESSENTIAL questions to ask when you’ve been misunderstood  As mentioned in this episode, if you’re looking for more reading on perc

    29/11/2021 Duración: 01h20min

THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE FOR 30% OFF ALL TOP COURSES!   The most dangerous phrase in any organization is “because that’s how we’ve always done it”.  It’s the utterance of those scared of change, unwilling to think laterally, and clinging desperately to their comfort zone. Any true leader knows that in today’s rapidly evolving world, those who last will be those who adapt- plain and simple.    As hard as change may be, imagine trying to implement it at the ground level of an organization steeped in tradition and hierarchy like the Army. That’s what today’s guest Captain Anna Zamora is trying to do; Not only has she been tasked with implementing a new culture surrounding soldier health and wellness, she has had to prove the viability of the program to those around her and above her.    Captain Anna Zamora was a D1 strength coach from 2010-2020 with stops at Duke, Yale, UConn, Penn State, and DePaul. She’s been a member of the Army National Guard since 2010 and is currently a CPT of medical services and Na

  • E196 | How to Evaluate ”Soft-Skills” So You Can Become a Better Coach

    15/11/2021 Duración: 01h11min

No matter what field you're in, technical skills will only take you so far. Eventually, you’ll need to leverage interpersonal skills to stand out and effect change. Problem is, society has misrepresented what it takes to train these skills, making them seem like intangible or innate qualities that can’t be measured or managed.    In reality, there’s more research on human interaction than any exercise or programming methodology (by far) and it’s quite simple to evaluate said “soft skills”. That’s why on today's episode we’re doing a deep dive into our proprietary social skill evaluation, how you can use it, and how it’s evolved over time.    Hint: it’s not just a matter of assessing “verbal and non-verbals”…    We’ll cover: How to measure something subjective and contextual like communication  Why you need a comprehensive interpersonal evaluation and how it can help The major components most other social skill evaluations miss  A breakdown of the AoC evaluation and how to use it situationally   I

I won’t lie- it’s a hard hitter. But if you’re able to listen and dig deeper internally, I promise you’ll come away a better coach and leader.    We’ll cover:  The REAL questions you need to be asking yourself Why it’s human (and necessary) to be selfish about certain things  Ways to identify what you’re lying to yourself and

  • E194 | How To Become A Better Listener

    01/11/2021 Duración: 49min

BLACKFRIDAY30 gets you 30% off ALL ONLINE COURSES.    We can all agree that listening is a foundational skill. And it makes sense- research shows we spend half our waking hours listening (Hargie, 2017; Kelley, 2019). But are you listening or are you just hearing? True listening requires encoding, reflection, and delivering on what you heard. It’s a skill, it requires practice and it’s required to ask better questions, to give rewards (people actually want), and to assert yourself.    Put more eloquently: “Listening is the willingness to let another person change you” - Alan Alda   On today’s episode we cover: The differences between hearing and listening  The 5 types of listening and the 4 types of listener  Verbal and non-verbal indicators to show you’re engaged How to practice the skill of listening    As you heard, practice requires application. Simply put, these skills mean nothing if you don’t practice and get evaluated on them. We have one Apprenticeship left this year.    Join us in Ashe
