Probably two of the toughest dudes we've had on the show.  Mike D'Angelo owns and operates The Fight Zone in Fort Myers where people from all over town train for years as MMA fighters. D'Angelo says that he he and his family have  trained people from practically toddlers into full-grown wrecking machines. Nick Recchia is a professional fighter out of Fight Zone, and is tenured in the SWFL fighting scene. He tells stories of his decisions to walk into an MMA gym after being kicked out of hockey for fighting, his experiences as an amateur fighter, and his more recent decision to start trading concussions for more than just a free steak dinner. This man shreds on a skateboard, and he has recently come out of the woodwork of SWFL as an amazing painter and artist! Until recently, Jesse Jones had been practicing his art as a passion under-the-radar, and he now displays his art at local shows and on his social media pages. From a young age he was forced to adapt and overcome obstacles after moving to the United States from Peru knowing NO ENGLISH at all. Since then, Gian has managed to travel much of the country and to other places around the world, work his way up the food-service ladder to "executive chef", and now has turned his passion project Green Bites into his full-time job. Another talented tattoo artist is coming our way! Steven Gabriele Jr. is opening Catharsis Tattoos in Naples very soon, and it was a privilege to get to speak with him on a personal and professional level. He tells us about some of his time in the U.S. Navy, beginning his career as a tattoo artist, and we talk in length about lots of tattooing technicalities. There is definitely a difference between a "tattooer" and a "tattoo artist". It is not only up to the artist to know this distinction, but also on the clients. Steven gives listeners some tips for those seeking their first tattoos, and he even drops a "hip-hop lyricist" top five on us! Danny and Brian learned a lot in this episode! Darby Neil is an advocate for the arts, a pursuer of passion, and an overall rad woman in Southwest Florida. Born and raised in Naples, Darby explains some of her trials growing up as an artist and finding her space in the community. After deciding one day that she was DONE working for a corporate grocery store, she made the transition into doing what she loves. As a painter, and medical marijuana patient educator, she had much to talk about, and we were fascinated! She chases adrenaline rushes through bombing hills on longboards, painting in public spaces, and moshing at concerts. In fact, some of these pursuits have left her with a handful of concussions. On top of that, she told one of the most interesting ghost stories that we've heard so far. If there is one thing to know about this man, it's that he's got BARS! Lutz is one of our favorite lyricists around SWFL, and his progress as an artist is very apparent to anyone who has been following him. In this episode we dive into Lutz growing up in Ohio as a skateboarder and finding his love of rhyme and rhythm as a teenager. We discuss what it's like moving from playing open-mic-nights to being the featured artist on a stage. It was interesting to hear his writing process and some of his insecurities and challenges as a fairly new rapper in this scene. One thing is clear, Lutz has a passion for the roots of hip-hop, and you can hear that in just about all of his songs. Expect even more intricate and cleverly-constructed bars from this man in the years to come. There is some HEAT coming out of the 239 in rap and hip-hop. We recently heard of Armani 2x after having his track "Lied to Me" featured on the No Srrys project produced by local legend Mar Lovacé. The beginning of his interview is "interrupted" by his son running into the podcast room. I found this to be a great way to start the episode because of the effect that Armani's family has on his music and motivation. In this episode we talk about freestyling as an 11 year-old, playing football in school, his time in jail, and much more. At only 20 years old, this man is a signed artist making waves in the local music scene. We enjoyed spending some time with him, and be sure to be on the lookout for his upcoming projects. Cobress has been my favorite local band since I discovered them a year ago, and having them in the studio to talk face-to-face as friends helped me remember why I love doing this so much. Colin is an accomplished tattoo artist of 11 years with a plethora of musical endeavors in his past. His visual art, his voice, and his bass/synth combination is stunning, and once paired with Xid, its only a matter of time before they take over the world! Xid has skills and talents that were imperative in the evolution of the band. Both of these men are genuine, hilarious, and down-to-earth people who were a pleasure to have in the studio with us. Evan (bassist and professional sound engineer) helped us temporarily upgrade the podcast studio and get everyone on a mic!
