Seasonal Affect Disorder-How R U Feeling? Does depression sometimes sneak up on you and suddenly you feel sad, especially during seasonal changes? Seasonal Affect Disorder or SAD usually strikes an individual right around fall season each year. When daylight is at a minimum and nights seem longer because we’re in the dark longer. As the temperature outside drops and we prepare for winter something happens to many of us. Lethargy sets in and we don’t want to jump out of bed quite so quickly. Like bears we tend to hibernate inside our homes. Add some snow to this equation and watch out! Doom and gloom may come knocking at your door. The tendency is to turn to comfort food and put on a few pounds. But is this form of depression real or imagined? It could be the onset of bi-polar disorder, but only your doctor will know for sure. That’s why it’s important to prepare for the onset of winter by monitoring our diets, getting some cardio exercise and finding a source of intense bright light to cheer us up. Join Tom O
