  • 84-Writer/Artist or Artist/Writer or Words/Images

    18/11/2011 Duración: 01h01min

84-Writer/Artist or Artist/Writer or Words/Images With guest host: Thordis Niela Simonsen, Writer/Artist introducing her new book, Dances in Two Worlds: A Writer-Artist's Backstory. Sharing the story of how, from the beginning, she has pursued writing and the visual arts simultaneously. When working in photography, it is true that the visual images illustrated the writing, although in photography, at first the writing explained the pictures--although that is not what motivated Niela to pick up the tape-recorder and, subsequently, the pen. Painting came later, when she wanted to immerse herself in color, but the painting and writing have always been separate processes. In Niela's book the writing does not describe the painting and the visual images do not illustrate the text. Niela will elaborate on the nature of the relationship between the two parallel narratives. In addition to touching on what motivated her to write and pursue the visual arts and how they relate to each other, We will also be talking

    28/10/2011 Duración: 01h01min

With guest host" Gaynor Nelson In this show we will explore what is meant by 'the healing power of art'? In early 2009, I began looking for a new focus for my art that would provide meaning while giving something of value to others.  I approached Steve I have had the opportunity to meet incredible individuals who have faced unimaginable pain and worked their way through their grief. These seven families with whom I have worked have lived through the experience from beginning to end and then moved beyond.  Now, they volunteer in efforts to assist other families who are experiencing similarly difficult situations.   These efforts include fundraising, participation in hospital events, and activities to support patients and their families.  They volunteer their work in the memory of their child. -Gaynor Nelson 88 88 ArtLook, 8888ArtLook.com, Annette Coleman, AnnetteColemanArtist.com, Jim Caldwell, ArtworkNetwork.com, Gaynor Nelson, gaynorcookenelson.com, Mary Williams Fine Art Gallery, Boulder, CO

  • 73-Art Installation with guest host Gary Parkins

    26/08/2011 Duración: 01h02min

Add to your knowledge about Art Installation     Our guest host Gary Parkins will help us explore ways of thinking about Art Installation and how the venue influences the outcome.   Gary produces sculptures by creating machines that emit transparent glue while it is momentarily fluid. They spin and drape individual strands over tightly pulled string armatures. With time, these many thousands of gossamer filaments, when infused with white light, create shimmering works. Some present elegant illusions, others exhibit geometric principles; all invite contemplation. • 72-Encaustic Painting, the methods and joys of layering

    19/08/2011 Duración: 01h01min

Our guest host Diane Kelly of DCKellyStudio.com will help us explore Encaustic Painting and the many methods that artists use with this very flexable medium. Encaustic paint is made from beeswax, pigment, damar resin and occasionally other additions to harden or crackle the paint., like carnauba wax. Encaustic paint is used hot, and is kept so on a heated palette, and fused with heat, either in the form of a heat gun, blow torch, or by exposure to brilliant sun during a warm summer. The name encaustic comes from the Greek 'enkaustikos', meaning to burn in. All layers of wax and collage need to be fused after each application of new wax. The surface can be made rough, you may collage items into it, the paint can even be cast into sculpture. It can be made as shiny as glass, and buffed to brilliance. It can look very different, like an oil painting or even like a coarse plaster wall, depending on how it is used. 88 88 ArtLook, 8888ArtLook.com, Annette Coleman, AnnetteColemanArtist.com, Diane Kelly, DCKellyS
