Movie Review: Creed III
24/02/2023 Duración: 01h14minDirector: Michael B. Jordan Writers: Keenan Coogler, Zach Baylin Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors Runtime: 1 hour 56 minutes Synopsis: Adonis has been thriving in both his career and family life, but when a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy resurfaces, the face-off is more than just a fight. Kriss, Ro and Brandon have differing opinions on the latest Creed film. It seems to come down to expectations. If you have lowered expectations because this is Michael B. Jordan's first time directing and he's also directing himself, this might be serviceable. If you were expecting a film that was in line with the previous Creed films, you might be disappointed. Jonathan Majors is absolutely fantastic but the script seems to do a lot of skipping over parts and "tell not show" that the previous films didn't do. There's a good film that could have been made here but it's not showing in the final product. Part of that could be because there's a first time director but there's also a lot o

Movie Review: Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania
17/02/2023 Duración: 01h08minDirector: Peyton Reed Writers: Jeff Loveness Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas Runtime: 2 hour 5 minutes Synopsis: Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania falls right in line with the other Ant-Man films with the one big distinction that it is Jonathan Major's MCU feature film debut as Kang and that alone is worth the price of a ticket (or several tickets). It seems that some folks have become confused with Marvel's approach to its films post-Infinity Saga. Basically they're not holding our hands and are going full comic book and that can be good or bad depending on what your expectations are. It's also very clear that you should be watching the Disney+ shows. Watching this film is definitely going to want to watch th

Movie Review: Knock at the Cabin
03/02/2023 Duración: 36minDirector: M. Knight Shyamalan Writers: M. Knight Shyamalan, Steve Desmond, Michael Sherman Starring: Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Rupert Grint, Kristen Cui Runtime: 1 hour 40 minutes Synopsis: While vacationing, a girl and her parents are taken hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family make a choice to avert the apocalypse. Knock at the Cabin might be one of the best looking M. Knight Shyamalan movies from a cinematic points. It has all of the things that should make this a great film. The cast works really well with what they're given. The problem is, this movie doesn't have the M. Knight Shyamalan twist and flair that is really needed for this film. It's a shocking disappointment. This isn't a bad film at all. But it's feels like something that was perfectly made for an adaptation by M. Knight but is missing something. What we get is a pretty film with solid acting that just feeling shallow. Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode!

Movie Review: I Wanna Dance With Somebody
23/12/2022If you're planning on watching Whitney Houston: I Want to Dance with Somebody because you want to celebrate the woman behind the icon, this isn't what you've been waiting for. Script writer Anthony McCarten (The Two Popes, Bohemian Rhapsody) designed a narrative built on innuendo, interviews, videos, and b-reel footage to such a degree that its central character, Whitney Huston, is never more than a plot device in a highlight reel of her career. And director Kasi Lemmons (Self-Made: Inspired by the life of Madame C. J. Walker), who should know better than to be satisfied with caricatures of Black people, did little to steer the story much deeper than offering a parody of a life lived. This talented cast's been set adrift with no hope of ever fitting an extraordinary life in such a meandering, and sadly subpar, homage. Director: Luca Guadagnino Writers: David Kajganich, Camille DeAngelis Starring: Naomi Ackie, Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, Clarke Peters Runtime: 146 (very lon

Movie Review: Bones and All
18/12/2022 Duración: 01h04minDirector: Luca Guadagnino Writers: David Kajganich, Camille DeAngelis Starring: Timothée Chalamet, Taylor Russell, Mark Rylance, Kendle Coffey, André Holland Runtime: 2 hour 11 minutes Synopsis: Maren, a young woman, learns how to survive on the margins of society. The worst IMBD synopsis (see above) for Bones and All leads to one of our funniest episodes. Listen as Brandon, Kriss and Ro discuss the film that should get Luca Guadagnino on a watchlist (if Call Me By Your Name didn't already have him on one). Like what you hear? Harry & Meghan- An MTR Network Special
18/12/2022 Duración: 01h46minDirector: Liz Garbus Starring: Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Afua Hirsch, Doria Ragland Episodes: 6 Since the announcement of their courtship the global media has been hyper-focused on the pairing that is Prince Henry Charles Albert David (Prince Harry to the rest of us) and Meghan Markle, the American actress and activist. Like his mother Princess Diana, Sarah Ferguson, and even Princess Margaret, this hyper-fixation on outspoken women with a desire to engage the public in a new and modern way has led to a campaign of venom and hate. Prince Harry, who expressed an intense dislike of the media and a desire to step away from the royal box even before his marriage, saw these repeated patterns and decided on a course of action that disrupted the status quo. Harry & Meghan is the Duke and Duchess' response to the ongoing campaign that appeared to be designed to destroy their relationship and return Harry to his "rightful place." The documentary, which features a compilation of fam

Movie Review: Avatar The Way of Water
17/12/2022 Duración: 01h09minDirector: James Cameron Writers: James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis Runtime: 3 hour 12 minutes Synopsis: Jake Sully lives with his newfound family formed on the extrasolar moon Pandora. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was previously started, Jake must work with Neytiri and the army of the Na'vi race to protect their home. James Cameron returns after 13 years to give us a sequel to 2009's Avatar. Avatar: The Way of Water is a visually stunning film as one would expect. What is unexpected (or maybe expected depending on who you talk to) is how bland and regressive the story and plot is. While no one would claim the first Avatar film was some marvel of story-telling. It's clear that Cameron "borrowed" from several different sources for that first film but it still was edited together in a coherent and enjoyable story. This new film is not only blatant in which films it rips dialogue and scenes

Movie Review: Babylon
14/12/2022 Duración: 25minDirector: Damien Chazelle Writers: Damien Chazelle Starring: Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Olivia Wilde, Diego Calva, Jean Smart Runtime: 3 hour 9 minutes Synopsis: A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood. Kriss, Ro and Brandon discuss the chaotic film, Babylon. Seriously, what the hell did we just watch? Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode! Movie Review: Top Gun Maverick
13/12/2022 Duración: 26minDirector: Joseph Kosinski Writers: Jim Cash, Jack Epps Jr, Peter Craig Starring: Tom Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Miles Teller, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, Jay Ellis, Monica Barbaro Runtime: 2 hour 10 minutes Synopsis: After thirty years, Maverick is still pushing the envelope as a top naval aviator, but must confront ghosts of his past when he leads TOP GUN's elite graduates on a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those chosen to fly it. The only thing better than Tom Cruise running is Tom Cruise flying. Kriss & Brandon finally watch Top Gun: Maverick during the award season run and Ro is happy to finally talk about it with them. Turns out making a movie 30 years after the original can work. Which is a shocker because usually they don't. But Top Gun Maverick manages to not only make a good sequel but also a movie that's probably better than the original. Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode! Movie Review: The Menu
18/11/2022 Duración: 35minDirector: Mark Mylod Screenwriter: Seth Reiss, Will Tracy Starring: Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Hong Chau, Janet McTeer, John Leguizamo Runtime: 2 hour 14 minutes Synopsis: A young couple travels to a remote island to eat at an exclusive restaurant where the chef has prepared a lavish menu, with some shocking surprises. Kriss and Ro review The Menu. This horror/thriller/comedy is a fantastic watch. There is a lot of social commentary in this film but it's not done in a heavy handed way. It's very smart and timely. The acting in this film is fantastic. The best moments in this film go from horror to comedy back to horror seamlessly. Listen as we review this film (spoiler-free). Like what you hear? Movie Review: Black Panther Wakanda Forever
09/11/2022 Duración: 49minDirector: Ryan Coogler Writers: Ryan Coogler, Joe Robert Cole Starring: Letitia Wright, Tenoch Huerta, Angela Bassett, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Martin Freeman, Michaela Coel, Dominique Thorne Synopsis: The people of Wakanda fight to protect their home from intervening world powers as they mourn the death of King T'Challa. Ryan Coogler puts together an emotional film for not only the cast but the fans. The story weaves in the real-life tragedy of losing Chadwick Boseman so suddenly and serves as a great bookend for Phase 4 of the MCU. Phase 4 was clearly about grief and Wakanda Forever handles that extremely well. In addition to that, the film also introduces Namor to the MCU. Tenoch Huerta plays the character extremely well and is a great addition to the MCU. This film also serves as a great sequel to the first film in terms of themes and fallout from some of the things that happened in that movie. It's very clear that there is setup for much larger conflicts in Phase 5 but the film also d

Movie Review: Tár
09/11/2022 Duración: 27minDirector: Todd Field Writers: Todd Field Starring: Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant, Nina Hoss Synopsis: Set in the international world of Western classical music, the film centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer-conductors and first-ever female music director of a major German orchestra. Movie Review: The Banshees of Inisherin
04/11/2022 Duración: 20minDirector: Martin McDonagh Writers: Martinn McDonagh Starring: Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon, Pat Shortt, Gary Lydon, Jon Kenny Runtime: 1 hour 54 minutes Synopsis: Two lifelong friends find themselves at an impasse when one abruptly ends their relationship, with alarming consequences for both of them. Kriss, Ro & Brandon review a film that is clearly award season bait, The Banshees of Inisherin. The film isn't bad and is a decent middle of the road film. It is a big weird that it is getting the bounce that it is. Like what you hear? Subscribe so you don't miss an episode! Movie Review: Black Adam
21/10/2022 Duración: 47minDirector: Jaume Collet-Serra Writers: Adam Sztykiel, Rory Hainnes, Sohrab Noshirvani Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Aldis Hodge, Pierce Brosnan, Sarah Shahi, Noah Centineo, Quintessa Swindell, Bodhi Sabongui Synopsis: Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the Egyptian gods-and imprisoned just as quickly-Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world. After so many years (like 15), of Dwayne Johnson teasing a Black Adam movie, the movie has finally come out. And it's fine. The bar was extremely low for this film and despite all it's problems, it clears that bar. So there's that. This film can be explained by looking at its strengths being The Rock and its weaknesses are Dwayne Johnson. Here's what that means. For Black Adam to be any type of success it needed to be loud, violent and talk a big game. That's WWE The Rock. And that's what we got in the promotion of this film and even what the film does on screen. It's not intere

Movie Review: Till
21/10/2022 Duración: 24minSynopsis: The true story of Mamie Till-Mobley's relentless pursuit of justice for her 14-year-old son, Emmett Till, who was brutally lynched in 1955 while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. Writer: Michael Reilly, Keith Beauchamp, Chinonye Chukwu Director Chinonye Chukwu changing the lens through which we revisit tragic events in Black history. Till focuses not on the murder of Emmet Till (Jalyn Hall) but who he was, the circumstances that led to his death, and his mother's refusal to permit what happened to be swept into the shadows. Chukwu's crafted a story grounded in honesty but not rooted in exploiting the gruesomeness of this crime. I said I was done watching pre-Jim Crowe narratives but Till is heart-wrenching, informative and Danielle Deadwyler as Mamie Till-Mobley gives a powerful performance that shouldn't be missed. It's a tribute to her strength, her pain, and critical contribution to the Civil Rights Movement. The oft ignored narrative of mothers is richly honored. Till is now playing in sel

09/04/2022Director: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert Writers: Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert Starring: Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, James Hong Runtime: 2 hour 19 minutes Synopsis: A middle-aged Chinese immigrant is swept up into an insane adventure in which she alone can save existence by exploring other universes and connecting with the lives she could have led.
