Broadway Bullet: Theatre From Broadway, Off-broadway And Beyond.

Broadway Bullet had exclusive backstage access to the 2008 NY IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards) and were able to interview all the winners and presenters live backstage! First, we sit down with the writer and an actor from TWILIGHT IN MANCHEGO as well as hear music from the new musical. We chat with an actress and the multi-talented book/music/lyric writer for ROAD TO RUIN. The co-author of COLLEGE: THE MUSICAL comes by with one of the actors from the show. The famed Prospect Theatre Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and NYMF is helping. We talk to the founder and the artistic director of the company. Also, the director and producer for the new musical, WILD ABOUT HARRY, come in to share with us about Leona Helmsley. And finally, the director and one of the actors from MAX AND THE TRUFFLE PIG stop in to chat and share music with us.

STEP INTO 'EL CLUB Voodoo,' an illegal cabaret on a side street in Havana, where impresaria Lolita presides over an unruly troupe of dancing girls, dissidents, bootleggers and drag queens. On the night Castro himself decides to take a look, farce turns to fiasco -- and the troupe has no choice but to set sail for Florida in a converted '56 Chevy. Castronauts is a spicy blend -– a witty backstage comedy and an unexpected profile in courage. Book and lyrics by Academy Award winning documentarian Bobby Houston. Bobby comes by the studio to talk a little about the show and to let us hear "Bigger than Barbie" and "Taste of Tears", two songs from the new NYMF production.

We begin our NYMF 2008 coverage this episode with 7 shows from the festival. We will also be going 3 more weeks in a row with more exclusive NYMF musical coverage! We also speak with the creators of the fringe show, "Anais Nin Goes to Hell" from MTWorks.

BOY, DO WE HAVE a jam up show for you this week. IT's the pre-Tony-Tony-Nominee-Special. We rounded up some of the best of the best of the nominees this year. We sit down with the Orchestrators of IN THE HEIGHTS to chat about the show and how they revitalized the Broadway sound to fit this uptempo new show. We also talk to Rondi Reed about her performance in AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY and Steppenwolf. Daniel Breaker drops in to talk to us about PASSING STRANGE and Shakespeare. We also have set designer, Michael Yeargan, from SOUTH PACIFIC in the studio. We hear some great music from PASSING STRANGE as well as IN THE HEIGHTS, too.

This week we have two-time Tony Award Nominee Danny Burstein in the studio to talk about SOUTH PACIFIC and his career. We hear a couple of songs from Mr Burstein. We also have XANADU star Kerry Butler in to give us a little preview of her new cd, and we also hear a couple of tracks from it. Capathia Jenkins drops in to chat about her new cabaret at Joe's Pub and gives us a live in-studio performance. We have the director and star of CINEPHILIA, the newest production from PossEble Theater Company. The director of THE GREAT AMERICAN ALL-STAR TRAVELING WAR MACHINE comes in to tell us about the new performance piece from the Irondale Theater Project. And we have two of the four women from Coyote Rep's four one woman shows, The Lone Wolf Series, to talk about creating a one woman show.

First off we have two of the actors from the new production at Playwright's Realm, SUBSTITUTION, Brandon Espinoza and Shanna Dowdeswell. Also the guys who brought you TITLE OF SHOW and are bringing it to Broadway, Hunter Bell and Jeff Bowen come by. We also get to hear a couple of songs from the show as well. From the double feature CROTHER SPYGLASS and THE RESISTABLE RISE OF FAITLINDA PALOKA, playwrights Timothy Dowd and Marcy Wallabout drop in. And two young performers from the new musical DON'T WORRY, BE JEWISH, Nathan Kay and Jasmine Petrarli, come in with a couple of songs from that show as well.

Actors Jordan Lage and Mary McCann from the Atlantic Theatre talk about "Almost an Evening"; we get up close with Karen Olivo from "In the Heights"; learn about "The Caucasian Chalk Circle"; Jeremy Shonfeld lets us know about his new CD and Birdland performance; dance troupe, Company XIV, tells us about "The Judgement of Paris"; we hear about the show "Wild Imaginings" from the teen theatre group, Little Fig Stage; and the stars and producer of "Sweet Mama Stringbean" share their stories with us. Through all of this we have 5 songs, including two live, in-studio performances from Jeremy Schonfeld.

We have Barbra Russell and Ron Sharpe (in their first interview for the production) from the new musical, opening after CURTAINS takes it's final bow, A TALE OF TWO CITIES, as well as music from the show and the singing producorial couple. We have a chat with Jace Alexander and Jason Chimonider from the newest venture from Ground Up Productions, THE OPTIMIST, to fill us on in on what happens during the weekend their play is set. Also Christopher Domig, the star and only actor from DIRT, comes by to tell us about what it's like to play an Arab immigrant. This episode also includes the songs, "Evil Woman" from XANADU and "Nothin' Hurts Like Love" from CUPID. And The Actor's Company Theatre comes in to talk about their production of the Tennessee Williams play, ECCENTRICITIES OF A NIGHTINGALE.

Jim Bauer and Ruth Bauer stop in to talk about the new musical at The Prospect Theater Co., THE BLUE FLOWER. We also hear a couple of songs from the show. We also give you a sneak peak at the new Broadway production of PASSING STRANGE, with exclusive 25 minutes of audio footage from a rehearsal of the cast and director, Annie Dorsen. Chuck Saculla, Dan Amboyer, and Steven Sherman of Emerging Artist's TRIPLE THREAT come by and chat about their new production. We also sit down with NYU Steinhardt's John Simpkins and Grant Wenaus to talk about their new production of FLOYD COLLINS and a little about the school of Musical Theatre.

Grammy winning songwriter, Jeff Silbar, swings by the studio to talk about his first ever solo album, and also to perform live in studio for us. Closing out our season finale Michaela Goldhaber, Co-artistic director of Flying Fig Theater, comes in to talk about their production of New Amsterdames and we hear a song from a musical in development, "1812".
