After practice instead of conducting interviews outside the media was moved inside Heritage Hall so everyone could be dry talking about USC spring practice No. 4. Head coach Lincoln Riley talked about a number of topics including their plan to acquire more talent from the NCAA Transfer Portal and how he feels that they have improved the roster over what they had last season, including the gap between the starters and the players just behind them. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast host Ryan Abraham and special guest Shotgun Spratling are together again recapping their weekend in Las Vegas for the Pac-12 Tournament. The guys were there checking out the Trojan basketball team that was trying to make a run and win a conference title. That wasn’t meant to be as Arizona State knocked off USC in the quarterfinals, sending the Trojans home early. The guys talk about what went wrong in Vegas with Andy Enfield’s squad that wasn’t entirely healthy heading into the tournament and why the extra rest might be just what the doctor ordered heading into the NCAAs. Heck, USC also did the Pac-12 a solid allowing the Sun Devils to get a big win and sneak their way into the field.  Depending on the results in Vegas, the Trojans could have been seeded anywhere from 7 to 11, so coming in at No. 10 is about right. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back talking about USC kicking off spring football 2023 with Lincoln Riley and the exact same coaching staff but a lot of new faces on both sides of the ball. Both Ryan and Harvey were on campus Sunday for the first spring practice where the media was allowed to attend and the guys were able to check out what the players looked like heading out of the tunnel sporting helmets, jerseys and shoulder pads. They also were able to watch the early team stretching where some special teams drills were going on followed by position drills including tackling by the defensive backs and linebackers. Coach Hyde was hanging out right outside the entrance to Howard Jones Field matching up the numbers with the players as they ran across the street and into the workout. The first spring practice will be held this Sunday, March 5 with two more practices on Tuesday and Wednesday (March 7 and 8) before the university goes on spring break. The squad will get back at it on Tuesday March 21 with a regular Tuesday, Thursday Saturday rotation for four weeks straight, leading up to the spring game on Saturday, April 15. Some practices will be partially open to the media and some will also have player and coach availability for interviews after practice. We are expecting an official spring prospectus and roster sometime before the first practice.
