Bob Baffert is back in the headlines for all the wrong reasons once again after his Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit returned a post-race blood sample above the permitted threshold for the anti-inflammatory drug betamethasone. US Racing expert Tom Collins provides the latest update on the story and what is expected to happen next. The panel then turn their attention to the racing showcased on ITV over the last week which was kicked off by Chester’s May festival. The team are in agreement that Armory’s return to action on the Rodee was most impressive whilst Zeyaadah looks to be the one to take out of the Cheshire Oaks. Albaflora and River Nymph put up strong performances at Ascot on Saturday but it was Bolshoi Ballet’s electric turn of foot at Leopardstown on Sunday that got everyone talking, including the postcast team. The 2,000 Guineas was a family affair as Poetic Flare, owned by Jim Bolger’s wife and ridden by his 54-year-old son-in-law Kevin Manning, landed the first Classic of the year. The postcast team dissect the result today but it seems the Friday postcast team already knew what was to come as three of the team tipped the 16/1 winner. The panel also take a look at one of the performances of the weekend from Sir Ron Preistley who defeated Pyledriver to land the Jockey Club Stakes. Can he become a top stayer and put it up to Stradivarius later on in the season? There was no surprise when Aidan O’Brien landed his seventh win in the 1,000 Guineas, but it was Frankie Dettori’s mount that scooped the prize rather than potential stable star Santa Barbara. A wide open 2,000 Guineas leaves plenty to dissect but incredibly the panel are all in agreement with a 16/1 shot in the first classic of the season and it’s not one of Aidan O’Brien’s.
