Make Dad Read Comics

Listener request month begins with a request from Bill a listener and podcast co-host of the Great Albums Podcast. Dad does not quite understand all of Astro City but really enjoyed the Kurt Busiek and Brent Anderson creation. Patrick reads the casting of the Marvel Film coming 2016 and Dad has a mixed and confused response. Star Wars Shattered Empire from Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto’s four issue mini series set between Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens is covered. Patrick picks Dad brain about his Star Wars background, Dad has an issue with the aging of Luke from panel to panel. Both father and son are a bit confused on the ending and tree gifts. Dad eats some donuts, and makes comments on adults collecting toys. Next Week Batman the Cult

Patrick and Dad end Halloween covering vol 1 of Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore’s The Walking Dead. Rodger emails in to explain Halloween in Sweden. Dad wants to know who came first the AMC show or the comics? Patrick and Dad gush over the Moore artwork and the atmosphere created with Black and White horror comics. A Halloween and horror themed comic series from the Mike Mignola universe of Hellboy with B.P.R.D 1946 from author Joshua Dysart and illustrator Paul Azaceta. Mutant vampires, Nazi occult research, demons, and robot giraffes are all tackled by Dad. Dad drops some political commentary about Donald Trump at one point and still has no clue if Hellboy is a Nazi Alien or a Nazi Demon. Plus donuts are eaten pre show. Next Week : The Walking Dead

Dad dips back into Batman with a heavy focus on the Joker in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullos’ horror filled modern Batman versus Joker tale. Patrick thinks there is too much Bat family included in this one Dad has an endless stream of questions on everything revolving around Batman and the coming winter? Next Week: BPRD 1946

Patrick is happy to welcome on friend of the show and fellow podcasters Shawn Engel from the Two True Freaks Network of podcasts. Patrick and Shawn also discuss why it is so damn hard to get people, Dad, included into reading superhero comics. Shawn and Patrick discuss DC comics use of legacy, history, and continuity. Green Lantern,JLA, Starman, and The Flash CW treatment are examined.

Patrick and Dad kick off the October with the adaptation of HG Wells War of the Worlds and alternative history sequel Scarlet Traces from writer Ian Edginton and artist D'Israeli from Dark Horse comics. Dad thinks that the heart of the team shine through more in one book than the other. Dad recaps his Flash television experiment and schools Patrick in empire building.
