It's a great month for Japanese releases, beginning with the recently released Persona 3 Portable. Andrew Fitch joins Kat and Ray to discuss the updated port along with the merits of the series as a whole. Also on tap for this week is an interview with Hothead devs Hamish Miller and Darren Evenson, who recently finished work on the adventure game/action RPG mashup DeathSpank. As always, whether it's hack 'n slash adventures or RPGs starring Japanese high school students, we've got you covered.

Mike's destiny has been carved out for him, to review gladiator-type games. The crew talk about Tournament of Legends, along with a bunch of other games. A discussion about Dead Space has Travis asking what makes a game scary, and Jade offers up a movie recommendation..

News takes up most of the attention this week, although one new and interesting game makes it in DeathSpank, with pre-release impressions from Matt and Scooter. Other than that, it's a roundup including PlayStation Move launch games, Kinect's possible standing-room-only, Activision's desired PC-based future, NBA Jam probably coming to the HD consoles, Mortal Kombat, Red Dead, and as always: So. Much. More.

This week, we talk about Space! Specifically, the MMO Nasa created. Also, Bobby Kotick says something to piss off gamers (again) and Tina wants Spain to win the World Cup (nobody cares). We have a great chat with developers of Shank, Prince hates the internet, and we close off with our call-in questions.

After a little Transformer talk, Alan clarifies some details about applying for a MyCheats freelancer position. Mike tries to play Tournament of Legends and is excited that the game has a hawkman in it. The crew answer some listener phone calls and close out with book and movie recommendations.

This week, we make an attempt to have a serious discussion about games as art—no, not really. Sam brings up Ebert's recent comments while everyone else falls asleep, Miyamoto makes a comment about needing new game characters, and uh, Dead or Alive will just be as perverted on the 3DS. Sharkey suggests Transformice for Recession gaming and we have our usual email and voicemail segment.

Summer hits hard on this episode of the Sound Test, with a big summer game (Super Mario Galaxy 2), breezy RPG music (Xenoblade), slightly country-fried leanings (Crystal Bearers), days spent inside with the Nintendo (Zoda's Revenge), and an all-too-fitting end from a Japanese classic.

A new name for an old show is the least of the discussion this week. Ray asks Jeremy Parish about Crackdown 2 (or at least the most he can talk about), Justin chimes in with impressions of Puzzle Agent and Lego Harry Potter, and the news hits everything from Roger Ebert to PlayStation Plus to weird in-game advertising.

With E3 now finished, it's time to take a closer look at the RPG genre as a whole. Alice Liang joins Kat, Ray and Jeremy to quickly wrap up E3 with a discussion of the show's most interesting RPGs, then settle in to discuss the current state of Japanese RPGs. It's the first of a series, so keep an eye on future episodes for similar discussions as we move into the second half of the year!

The crew lament the loss of Mickey Mouse's scrappy alter ego in Epic Mickey, discuss this week's NBA Jam cover story, and Mike gets pumped for Skulls of the Shogun. We discuss Odd news of the week, like Kinect's pricing, children can't play 3DS, and Iwata's comment on the industry. It's been a nice week of post-E3 decompression for us. Ray, Justin, Matt and Frank take to the mics to give some final thoughts on this year's show. Key points include late impressions of Journey on PS3, thoughts on E3 as a whole and where it may be headed, perhaps even if it's going out of hand; and in the second half, a sort-of news segment that's mostly about Microsoft's as-yet-unconfirmed Kinect price, and how Sony and others are pricing their motion control options. Plus, the elusive 3DS "Pogo Cat."

When podcasts collide you get a downright erratic episode of Retronauts. Ray Barnholt talks to fellow podcasters Jordan Morris and Jesse Thorn, and explores the duo's own histories with videogames. But just what do they talk about? Virtually everything, including the Atari Lynx, Nintendo's E3 lineup, all sorts of sports games, R.O.B., and Barkley Shut Up and Jam Gaiden. Let's go!

It's our epic post-E3 show! The crew decompress and discuss the mindmelter/bodymover that was the Electronic Entertainment Expo, and then it's back to what the at1UPpers do best: the guys have an idea for a Star Wars Bounty Hunter movie and Jade offers up another recommendation. In the after-segments, Alan and Mike go spoiler-heavy in a Toy Story 3 discussion, and we wrap things up with a pre-E3 lost episode.

A little bit of post-E3 festivities seep into this week's show, opening with the rollicking theme song to Ollie King, the chiptune-based fun of Art Style light trax, the human sound effects machines of The Neverhood, and everybody's favorite track from a certain Sega cult classic.

Kat is joined by Star Wars the Old Republic lead writer Daniel Erickson in the first segment, where they talk about the newly-announced personal starships and the broader challenges of making a BioWare-style MMORPG. The Sony press conference was still going on as we were recording, so we keep most of the discussion brief, but there's still room to pontificate on the rest of E3's games and trends.
