Sinopsis

Every week, the hosts of PokerStars TV (James Hartigan and Joe Stapleton) bring you a behind-the-scenes look at what its like being two regular folks on the international poker circuit. Told from the perspective of a cranky British dad (Hartigan) and an undateable American bachelor (Stapes), Poker in the Ears is a mostly uncensored take on the world of professional poker. The hosts also regularly call in favours, in the form of guest spots from their big-shot celebrity poker-playing friends. And they routinely hold on-air competitions, providing chances for listeners to join them on tour.

Episodios

  • Episode 62 – 13/10/2016 (Igor Kurganov)

    13/10/2016 Duración: 01h11min

Joe starts the podcast with one of the most disgusting anecdotes ever told on #EPTNotLive (which is saying something). Then, he and James preview the next slate of #EPT TV shows due to air on Channel 4 (UK & Ireland) and PokerStars.tv (rest of the world). Igor Kurganov features in one of those episodes – the EPT 12 Grand Final Super High Roller final table – and is this week’s special guest. He talks about his poker roots and his current obsession with virtual reality. Finally’s friend Steve Fair answers questions themed edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’.

  • Episode 61 – 06/10/2016 (Kevin Martin)

    06/10/2016 Duración: 01h11min

Joe’s in Amsterdam, celebrating his 43rd birthday. But he’s taken time out from partying for this week’s podcast. He and James discuss poker news – including the recently announced partnership between PokerStars and the GPL. The boys also catch up with Kevin Martin from Team Online to talk bromance, TwitchCon, and the trials and tribulations of being a DJ on a Canadian rock station. There’s a recap of the EPT Malta Spin & Go promotion, plus an important advisory regarding satellites for January’s event in the Bahamas (clue: it’s not called the PCA anymore). And Gabe Nagy tests his knowledge of the Ryan Reynolds movie ‘Van Wilder’ in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 60 – 29/09/2016 (Celina Lin)

    29/09/2016 Duración: 01h08min

The World Championship of Online Poker is finally over. James and Joe recap the Main Event with Celina Lin, who covered the final table live on the PokerStars Twitch channel. As well as talking WCOOP, Celina relives an unfortunate encounter with a monkey in Hong Kong and describes the devastating effects of exploding glass tea pots. There’s a summary of the recently announced revisions to the recently confirmed changes to the European Poker Tour payout structure (it’s less confusing than it sounds), plus details of the forthcoming EPT Malta Spin & Go promotion. And vintage video games is the subject of this week’s ‘Superfan vs Stapes’ contest, as Robert Adams from California competes for some prizes. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 59 – 22/09/2016 (Felix Schneiders)

    22/09/2016 Duración: 01h19min

Joe is reasonably happy with some of this week’s suggestions for new podcast names, but he’s unhappy with James’s defiant, unapologetic stance on “spoiling” ‘Narcos’. Anyway, there’s some Poker Hall of Fame gossip, another tale from the infamous PokerStars toilets, plus WCOOP news and a preview of the Main Event. There’s also an interview with Felix Schneiders from Team PokerStars Pro Online, who’s been analysing many of the WCOOP final table replays on Twitch. Plus, Freddy Cruz from Florida makes his long-awaited appearance on the podcast, aiming to out-wit Joe in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. We’re still taking Superfan applications, by the way. Please volunteer via Twitter, and don’t forget to include your specialist subject. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 58 – 15/09/2016 (Fedor Holz)

    15/09/2016 Duración: 01h14min

James and Joe continue to wade through suggestions for new names for the podcast, and they discuss the names on this year’s shortlist for the Poker Hall of Fame. Joe is one of 20 “distinguished” members of the poker media who help decide who gets inducted. But it’s the World Championship of Online Poker that’s the primary focus of this week’s show. The boys review final table replays and the hugely successful Twitch stream of the Super High Roller, hosted by Jason Mercier and Jason Somerville. They also speak to the man who chopped the WCOOP SHR for more than $1m, Fedor Holz. Yep, another week, another seven-figure score for CrownUpGuy (FYI: this interview was conducted a few days before Fedor’s most recent result). Finally, Sean McCarthy from the UK demonstrates his knowledge of Kevin Smith movies in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 57 – 08/09/2016 (Sebastian Malec)

    08/09/2016 Duración: 01h10min

After considering some of your (mostly awful) suggestions for a new name for the podcast, James and Joe launch into a review of ‘Duel’: the new web series featuring heads-up matches between the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr, Aaron Paul and John Boyega. The boys also speak to the winner of the biggest European Poker Tour Main Event in history, Sebastian Malec. The young Polish student talks about his journey from chess prodigy to poker fan to EPT champion. There’s a preview of upcoming WCOOP events and Twitch streams, and Robin Neal from Canada competes for a Step C ticket and a T-shirt in a baseball-themed edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 56 – 01/09/2016 (Matt Broughton)

    01/09/2016 Duración: 55min

It’s a three-way, as Matt joins James and Joe for the second consecutive week. The boys talk about the closing stages of the record-breaking EPT 13 Barcelona festival and their subsequent journeys home. There’s a recap of the Main Event final table, including a dramatic re-creation of the epic final hand, plus behind-the-scenes stories involving handshakes (one unwelcome, the other avoided). Joe talks about meeting some Superfans at a recent comedy gig in London, but, sadly, there’s no ‘Superfan vs Stapes’ this week, due to the indisposition of a long-time listener. Finally, some of your suggestions for a new name for the podcast are considered, and mostly rejected. But please keep them coming (there’s an incentive!), along with your Superfan applications. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 55 – 28/08/2016 (EPT Not Live @ EPT Live, with Mike Tindall, Neil Johnson & Luca Vivaldi)

    28/08/2016 Duración: 55min

James, Joe and Matt are in Barcelona for a record-breaking EPT festival. It also happens to be one of the last EPTs EVER! The boys discuss how the tour is changing in 2017, and are joined by the HOLPOPE, Neil Johnson, to talk about the imminent launch of the PokerStars Championship. There’s also some #StarsFun, as Joe puts former rugby star and ‘Shark Cage’ runner-up Mike Tindall through his paces in a game of ‘Race Situations’. Plus, Luca Vivaldi, one of the most senior and popular members of the EPT tournament staff, shows off his ‘Game of Thrones’ knowledge in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. (This is the audio version of #EPTNotLive originally shown on the #EPTLive webcast.)

  • Episode 54 – 18/08/2016 (Liv Boeree)

    18/08/2016 Duración: 01h08min

It’s the Barcelona Preview Show! James and Joe look ahead to the first leg of EPT 13, detailing the big tournaments taking place, the events being streamed live on PokerStars.tv, the #EPTLive freerolls running during the festival, and the changes being made to the EPT payout structure. Liv Boeree joins the boys live from Munich Airport (!), and offers her thoughts on the payout change. She also talks about what she’ll be playing and getting up to while in Barcelona, and explains why she isn’t able to enter the Main Event this year. Finally, snooker enthusiast Andy Harper tries to prove that he’s an ever bigger Phil Laak fanboy than Joe in this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 53 – 11/08/2016 (Griffin Benger)

    11/08/2016 Duración: 01h17min

With only a week to go until the start of the new EPT season, the podcast is back! James and Joe talk about what they’ve been up to over the summer, and continue their painful row about Twitter verification that’s been running since EPT Dublin in February. There’s also a summary of what’s happened in the poker world during the last six weeks, including the WSOP Main Event. Griffin Benger joins the boys to talk about making the November Nine (or October Octet +1) and his infamous run in with EPT fan favourite/villain William Kassouf. Finally, Zach Whigham from Georgia is tested on his knowledge of the US version of The Office in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. Want to compete on the show? Please let us know. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 52 – 23/06/2016 (Lex Veldhuis)

    23/06/2016 Duración: 01h13min

In their last podcast before their six-week summer break, James and Joe pay tribute to an #EPTLive fan who recently passed away, and celebrate Jason Mercier’s continued success at the World Series of Poker. Lex Veldhuis joins the boys to talk about the infamous Mercier/Selbst bracelet bet, his Omaha streams on Twitch, and his love/hate relationship with tournaments. Joe recaps some of his recent Vegas shenanigans, which include passing out after a pool party and playing a lot of poker – some of it for charity, and some of it in a glass box. Finally, budding poker commentator James Day gets some tips from the “pros” and competes for prizes in a Survivor-themed edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive returns on Thursday 11th August 2016.

  • Episode 51 – 16/06/2016 (Maria Ho)

    16/06/2016 Duración: 01h08min

It’s finally happened. A well-known poker player has a major beef with Joe and has told him how much he DOESN’T appreciate his comedic commentary (it’s fair to say the confrontation was a tad awkward). Fortunately, it’s all rainbows and unicorns for the rest of the podcast, as Joe talks about hanging out with some of poker’s finest at a 70s-themed birthday bash in Las Vegas. Maria Ho was also at the party, and she’s the guest on this week’s show, finding time between World Series of Poker events to talk to the boys and play a silly game. Plus, poker writer Robbie Strazinsky competes for a tournament ticket and a T-shirt in a WSOP-themed edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 50 – 09/06/2016

    09/06/2016 Duración: 01h08min

Joe is in Las Vegas, where he’s been hanging out with the likes of Phil Hellmuth Jr, Antonio Esfandiari and ‘Breaking Bad’ star Aaron Paul. He’s also been losing hundreds of dollars at the tables and has managed to get into a ‘Social Media Beef’ with Ludovic Geilich. Meanwhile, James has been playing some poker at The Vic in London, and talks about being bluffed in a micro-stakes cash game and butchering a hand in a tournament. There’s a round-up of PokerStars live events around the world (#PlayOnPokerStars), and Scott Adamson, a Canadian living in China, shows off his knowledge of the ‘Hangover’ movies in this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 49 – 02/06/2016 (Daniel Negreanu)

    02/06/2016 Duración: 01h13min

To celebrate the launch of the feature-length documentary ‘KidPoker’ on Netflix (in the UK & Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand), James and Joe host a special DNegs-themed episode of the podcast, featuring special guest star Daniel Negreanu. In an extended interview, Daniel talks about the long-awaited release of the film, his recent trip to Romania, the Super High Roller Bowl, the WSOP, the ‘Rocky’ franchise, ‘Game of Thrones’ and American politics. And, just in case you don’t think that’s enough Negreanu for one show, “The Life of Daniel” is the specialist subject in this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’, as Colm Mc Cumiskey from Ireland takes on Joe in a quest for fortune and glory. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 48 – 26/05/2016 (Charlie Carrel)

    26/05/2016 Duración: 01h18min

Joe describes a Hollywood night out, and an encounter with celebrity poker fan Aaron Paul, while James reveals his annoyance with classic cars. After running through some of the results from #SCOOP, and re-enacting Jason Mercier’s Twitter spat with Doug Polk, the boys talk about the #EPT 12 Dublin High Roller final table (now available to watch at PokerStars.tv). Charlie Carrel, who finished third in that event, is this week’s guest. He talks about some of the key hands from the tournament, and receives an unfair amount of abuse for his unique mode of attire. Plus, Michael Zajac from Canada competes against Joe in a San Francisco 49ers-themed edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 47 – 19/05/2016

    19/05/2016 Duración: 01h05min

This week’s podcast features another reading from ‘The Book of Joe’. Also back by popular demand, a tale of degeneracy from the Sandy archives. James and Joe break down the #PCA2016 Main Event final table TV show, featuring a host of great players and a cute dog (watch it now at PokerStars.tv). And Joe talks about playing Hold'em by the rules alongside some fellow poker personalities in a Los Angeles home game. There’s a look ahead to the #EPT 13 Barcelona festival. And it’s double trouble in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’, as Chris Spirito from Rhode Island and Kagiso Mabusela from Johannesburg showcase their knowledge of ‘Arrested Development’. Want to appear on the show as a Superfan? Just let us know your specialist subject. #EPTNotLive

  • Episode 46 – 12/05/2016 (Bryn Kenney)

    12/05/2016 Duración: 01h36min

James and Joe are back from Monaco. They’re exhausted, but still in one piece. Just about. There’s a recap of the EPT 12 Grand Final, including the lowdown on what happened when the lights went out on #EPTLive. Joe tells a bizarre tale involving a stand-up gig, a bunch of flowers, a mysterious note and a phone call (to be continued in the next episode of #EPTNotLive). The #PCA2016 TV shows are now airing, so Bryn Kenney joins the boys to discuss the $100k Super High Roller final table. James and Joe ask him about the OTHER Kenny, and find out if @BrynKenneyWorld is the real deal or a parody account. Plus, find out if Joe Lipscomb, aka: Skuff, knows more about the EPT sketches than the man who wrote them in this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’.

  • Episode 45 – 06/05/2016 (EPT Not Live @ EPT Live, with Thomas Lamatsch)

    06/05/2016 Duración: 01h02min

James and Joe an “on tour” edition of #EPTNotLive. The three are in Monaco for the EPT 12 Grand Final. After discussing a few personal conflicts, including a life or death struggle with a hornet, they recap the first few days of cards-up action on #EPTLive. Tournament Director Thomas Lamatsch makes a special appearance on the show, accompanied by James’s worst nightmare. The other guest on the podcast is Isabel Boyle, the 72-year-old grandmother who qualified for the EPT in a €10 Spin & Go. She’s tested on her knowledge of 1950s music in this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. The boys run through some of the key winners at the European Poker Awards, and assess Joe’s performance as host. Plus, there’s a brief (spoiler-free) review of ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

Plus, there’s a summary of #StarsFun activities planned for Monaco, some of which may appear in the next episode of #EPTNotLive. Niall Farrell joins the boys to talk about his EPT victory, as the Malta final table highlights show premieres on PokerStars.tv (channel4.com/poker in the UK and Ireland). And Las Vegas is the theme of this week’s edition of ‘Superfan vs Stapes’, with Christopher Bean going heads-up against Joe.

    21/04/2016 Duración: 01h09min

James and Joe kick things off with tweets about last week’s podcast, including positive reaction to the news that #EPTLive is going cards-up in Monaco. EPT 12 has started airing on TV, so the boys review the season premiere: the Barcelona Main Event Final Table. They’re joined by runner-up Steve Warburton to discuss the show. Steve is also subjected to one of the most torturous trivia games ever created by (a hairy) man. Joe decides to campaign for numerous nominees in this year’s European Poker Awards with a series of ‘For Your Consideration’ ads. And Michael Bumblis from LA tries to outsmart a fellow ‘Seinfeld’ obsessive in ‘Superfan vs Stapes’. #EPTNotLive
