Dr. Stephen Ponder: Diabetes Disaster Help

In the middle of the outreach was American Association of Diabetes Educators 2018 Diabetes Educator of the Year, Dr. Stephen Ponder. We speak to Dr. Ponder about the huge team of volunteers that was needed to get help where it was most needed and how Harvey was just the beginning. Since the first time "T1 Team Texas" jumped into action, devastating hurricanes hit Florida, Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands, creating even more of a need for people with diabetes in those areas. Dr. Ponder shares how organizations like Insulin4Life and others got supplies to the area and how T1 Team Texas reached people, some of whom were stranded without power or transportation. He also offers advice to help us prepare for a disaster. And don't miss the very end when he offers the secret to raising healthy kids with T1D. Banting's Ghost: The Insulin Access Documentary
28/06/2017 Duración: 45minA bonus episode this week to get the word out about Banting's Ghost. Stephen Richert is a photographer and film maker who was diagnosed with type 1 at age 16. His website and project Living Vertical is a way to document his adventures and share his family's story. Now, Stephen is working on a new project: documenting the insulin access crisis in America. Named after Sir Frederick Banting, one of the researchers who discovered insulin in 1923 and sold his share of the patent for $1, Banting's Ghost is a way to document the people who are struggling.
