Sinopsis

A former megachurch pastor leaves religion behind to rid himself of the exclusivity created by its dogmas in order to open himself up to learn from the lives, stories, and experiences of everyone else. To prove we are more alike than we think and we can all get along no matter what we believe. Topics range via guest's experiences growing up in religious homes, where Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Secularism, Judaism, Hinduism, Tao, Heathenism, Wicca and all forms of dogmas and ideologies programmed into the mind of a child. What happens when that child becomes an adult? What good things do they hold onto? What things do they lose? Where are they now, and in what ways are they finding the peace that we all desire, with or apart from the religions they were raised with? Losing Our Religion is a wild ride with a community of diverse humans each seeking their desired life away from dogma and exclusivity.

  • EPISODE 071: Great Minds Discuss Ideas: Author Abolitionist Zach Hunter

    30/11/2016 Duración: 01h04min

This is a deep and challenging episode. We ravage through the topics of the dualism argument, the gender fluidity of God, humanism, eastern versus western world views, outer space, Elon Musk, social justice, and why the church has sucked at it. That's just in the first half! You will enjoy Zach Hunter, his thoughts, ideas, LGBTQ inclusivity, and his challenging of modern day Christianity. "Justice is not just something for white Christians to seek for "exotic" parts of the world from the comfort of our couches. Justice is here and now. Justice is the same whether we are talking about the treatment of LGBT+ people, victims of police violence, or victims of human trafficking. It is the same Justice. Seeking Justice is one of the most practical acts of worship in which a Christian can take part. It is practically loving your neighbor; it is respecting the temple, the image of God." - Zach Hunter LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn | iHeart

  • EPISODE 070: Is the Church Worth Saving?: Author Abolitionist Zach Hunter

    23/11/2016 Duración: 01h04min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn | iHeart The statistics are in.  Christianity and the Western Christian Church is losing.  Which is exciting to some and frightening to others.  Author and Abolitionist Zach Hunter and I have a fabulous discussion around justice, empathy, and compassion as well as we both take sides on whether or not we feel the church is worth saving in our lifetime. As many of you know, I don’t have a lot of “Christians” on the show.  I’m tired of them, their message and reasoning are incomplete, and their audience is enabled not empowered.  Zach is an exception to my religious profiling.  He’s educated and impassioned about bring justice to an unjust world.  He’s not defensive of the church; he's challenging it. As one who has left the church with no hope of returning.  I Zac, have nothing of value to bring them.  I left the building; I vacated the property, I'm now nothing more than an apostate, a heretic, so my opinion should be meaningless because I have

  • EPISODE 069: You See Me As a Rapper, a Character, But I’m a Person: Arthur Williams KingDro

    16/11/2016 Duración: 01h35min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn | iHeart This is Arthur Williams. He’s a rapper, an artist, a character, even a comedian, but behind it all; he’s a person. Too often we look to those who entertain us, represent us, or lead us as some kind of demagogues, but they're people. We’re a finicky species. If someone doesn’t please us to our liking, we move on. However, there are real people behind the characters we see. They deserve a shot! They deserve to be heard. The deserve to be human, to mess up, to grow, and to live their life without our input. I am very grateful for Art spending so much time with us in these episodes. I know his work will bring you joy.

  • EPISODE 068: Black, White, Rap, Punk, Whatever: Art KingDro Will

    08/11/2016 Duración: 01h03min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn | iHeart Inevitably we talk about the black and white thing. About the police, about Black Lives Matter, about our experiences with the cops, but we go far beyond that. Because Art is way bigger than all of that and he shows it in his art form, how he treats people, and how he approaches life. Art "KingDro" Will is a rapper, an entertainer, an artist, and a music producer. I have found His No Particular Style Productions to be a reflection of who he is as a person. He comes at you as he comes at you, person to person. Straight talk, no bullshit, looking to keep that party going.

Like most large organizations, there is a severe culture problem. When it comes to Marines getting help. If there is help to be sought out, it's hard to gain traction because you're moving around all the time. Not to mention, what Marine would get help when their superiors and peers all take a stance of "needing help means you're weak." As far as I'm concerned, F**K THEM! Give us a Rating & Review

  • EPISODE 064: Lay Down Your Ego and Filter: Ty Hodge

    11/10/2016 Duración: 58min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn This episode will blow your mind! Some people call it conspiracy theory, some call it propaganda, I call it fucking interesting.  Ty blows my mind with some of the stuff he says.  I just wanted to give him a mic and let him talk. At first meeting, Ty was one of the most interesting men I have ever met.  At first glance, he is a handsome black man.  Innocent in form, but wise in words.  In a very short amount of time, he began to share his thoughts, ideas, and realities.  Probably because of Toni, the mutual friend that introduced us, being a trustworthy lady and partly because we began talking about the podcast. Ty may be labeled by some people as a "conspiracy theorist."  If that's the case then, in my opinion, what better time in history to be conspiring to find the truth of everything around us than right now! 14/09/2016 Duración: 01h05min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn | iHeart There's a fine line between spirituality and religion. At least there is to me. Walking that line can be tough. It's so easy to take spiritual things and make a system out of them, a rhythm, a minutia of repetitive actions that we convince ourselves are making a difference in our lives. Are they? And can massage and bodywork be a part of that? Kevin has been through some shit, not just the religious ringer, but mentally and physically as well. He's been run over by delivery drivers, grieved through his brother's suicide, and countless other life trauma all coming out on the other side with a growing peace and a desire to share. • EPISODE 059: What is Love?: Lori Fazzino

    01/09/2016 Duración: 01h22min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn So I wrote this Facebook post about love and fear and two ladies read it. By no fault of their own, they read it from a different context than I intended. They both made comments, which at the time I deemed as incoherent because they were so far out of my frame of reference for the post that I arrogantly tossed them aside. This episode is me gaining perspective from one of those women, my friend, and LOR Resident Deconversion Expert, Lori Fazzino. Both women read my post with regards to romantic love, but I meant it in a way to encourage a love of those different from us. This will be an interesting conversation because I don't believe in "being in love." I am a self-proclaimed "love atheist." 31/08/2016 Duración: 01h03min

LISTEN ON iTunes | Soundcloud | Stitcher | Google Play | TuneIn CJ and I have a long overdue conversation about the "school to prison pipeline." The government's institution of the “zero tolerance policy” in schools and its effect on our students and teachers perspective of students. Does it create a scenario where individual races are set up for failure? Can we change it? What will it take? This conversation takes some sides roads from the intended conversation, but they're amazingly beautiful, scenic, side roads. “Deep and simple is far more essential than shallow and complex." — Fred Rogers “When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war and justice that proves more powerful than greed." — Fred Rogers   JOIN US Join the CounterCulture Society -
