Wayne Kotow California Director for the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) invites all our listeners to upcoming events. Captain Cley Williams, skipper of the Old Glory, calls us via satellite phone with a report on the big tuna being caught off our local waters. Kevin Kidd-Tackanberry, head ranger for the San Diego City Lakes, talks about the current condition at the major lakes under the City Lakes Department and updates us on what's happening with Lake San Vicente. John Campbell, Director of the 2016 Yellowtail Derby reviews with us how the tournament is going as we approach the last two weeks of competition.

Capt. Frank Ursetti from H&M Landing and the Ranger 85 updated us on the Big Fish Tournament going on at the landing come the end of June. Capt. Art Taylor from Searcher Sportfishing on the eve of starting his 2016 season reported on what type of fishing we can expect to see this season and what’s new on his vessel. Justin Locitas from Lake Havasu City invited us all to attend the annual SPRO Frog Tournament scheduled for Lake Havasu on June 11. This is a unique event that has been going on for the past four seasons where the only lure the fishermen can use during the entire tournament is a SPRO Bronzeye Frog. As always Phil Friedman and Capt. James Nelson came in with timely reports.

John Campbell talks about the last hours of the 2016 Yellowtail Derby and the upcoming awards ceremony. Two time co-angler of the year Todd Kline relates to us his win in the FLW Rayovac National Championships Wendy talks about which line and what connections to use on these huge bluefin off our immediate coast. Stan passes on some helpful hints we should know when reviewing and updating our boat insurance.

On Rod and Reel Radio this past Sunday evening 1/31/16 Gary Klein talked to us about his career as a pro angler and updated us on the happenings with Major League Fishing. Joe and Mike Israel shared their story on how they won the 2016 San Diego Bay Bass Tournament. As always, Phil Friedman and Captain James Nelson updated us on local saltwater fishing conditions.

Marko Milikotin from the California Sportfishing League was with us commenting on the continued decline of Sportfishing licenses in the state of Californian in 2015 and what the means to us fishermen. Also we had a brief discussion on the change in philosophy the California Fish and Game commission might be taking. Pro Angler Dean Rojas Also joined us on this the 15th anniversary of his recording setting catch of bass in a BASS tournament. Also we went into what it took to develop the most popular frog lure on the market, SPRO’s Dean Rojas Bronzeye Frog. Phil Friedman joined us with a time saltwater report, and Captain James Nelson was with us with comments on the 2016 San Diego Angler’s Bay Bass Tournament.

Captain Kirk, Owner and Operator of Sure Strike Lodge out of Craig Alaska was with us. He happened to hear us talking about catching "Albies" off the coast of Alaska in 2015 and wanted to be with us to give testament to that fact and and fill us in on other fun creatures to be catch out of Sure Strike Lodge. Wayne Kotow California Director for the Coastal Conservation Association will report on the CCA meeting coming up in San Diego on January 21st to form a San Diego Chapter. Also joining Captain Kirk and Wayne was John Elder from Southwest Tackle Collectors filling us in on the Collectors show we all will be able to attending happening the first week of February in Carlsbad, CA. As always, Phil Friedman and Captain James Nelson were with us with timely local saltwater reports.

Meteorologist Chris Dunn talking about the current SoCal El Nino driven storms and weather-wise what might be in the store for us in the coming months? Mike Cordell, son of lure maker and designer Cotton Cordellm reminisced on his dad’s life and accomplishments. The last live show for 2015 was quick paced, full of fun and information. Captain John Guess for Faith Sportfishing started the evening off with a report on the wish he helped fulfill for Kyle Riggs, a young man from Ohio with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, who made a wish to come to San Diego to go fishing. Next Phil Friedman reported to us live from the bow of the Pacific Islander out of Channel Island Sportfishing as he was getting back into port from a successful rock fishing trip. Captain John Guess again joined us to tell us a little more about Faith Sportfishing and how the boat has made the journey from “Mag” Bay to now port at H&M Landing in San Diego Sammy Lee Host of “Tightlines with Sammy Lee” joined us to update us on the 2016 inductees into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. Last but not least, to end the year, Captain Frank Ursitti joined us to review the 2015 coastal fishing season with us, prognosticate on the 2016 season and report on the happenings at H&M Landing.

Angler Dr. Tom Martens talked about the road taken to become the 55th and last qualifier for the 2016 Bassmaster Classic. Author Jerry Hamaz talked with us about his new book “Outdoor Chronicles: True Tales of a Lifetime of Hunting & Fishing”. Jerry also spent thirty years working with legendary comedian George Carlin. Phil Friedman and Captain James Nelson also reported on local fishing conditions.

Pro angler Paul Bailey talking to us about his world record spotted bass caught during this past week. Also Paul’s brother Shaun called in from Arizona to congratulate him. Paul had just broken the Lake Havasu five bass limit for a tournament record with 31lbs+. Dwayne Pantenande updated us on the happenings for the 2016 San Diego Bay Bass Open Captain Ray Summers from Vendetta Sportfishing out of H&M Landing talk saltwater and the continuing tuna bite.
