  • Carolan's Quarrel With the Landlady

    02/01/2012

This song is so pretty it's hard to imagine it's about a quarrel, but I think the landlady didn't want him to keep drinking her supply of ale, so he argues about it. At least that's what the biographic sources say.

  • Silver Spire

    29/12/2011

I learned this version from Leon Hunt

  • Carolan's Concerto

    18/12/2011

Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738) was influenced by Italian composers and this is one of his best such tunes.

  • Carolan's Welcome

    16/11/2011

In my continuing effort to study O'Carolan's works, I've found another gem of a melody, #171 in his notated songs from Donal O'Sullivan's biography Carolan,The Life, Times, and Music of an Irish Harper; and tabbed nicely in Ron Hughes O'Carolan for the 5 String Banjo book.

  • Tam Lin

    06/09/2011

The web tells me that this traditional sounding tune is composed and credited to Davey Arthur - Dublin born but now living in Edinburgh, Scotland. My variation has an added intro that i come back to midway to lead into a break - I play all the parts - recorded with a Zoom H2 into a laptop - ADGBD tuning - key of Dm

  • Ashokan Farewell

    25/01/2011

The band asked me to work this one up and to be honest it's a million miles away from my usual style. I tried to work it up in 'open G' tuning; then changed my mind and used 'open D' tuning, then decided I wanted a low drone so started again in 'open C' capoed up to D. It's a beautiful tune and I think i've done it justice, i'm quite proud of this one, hope y'all like it. I would like to thank my beautiful mother Colleen Cooper, for a fantastic job working the recording software and all the support whilst I was working up the tune. Thanks Mum!

  • Irish Chicken

    13/01/2011

A little tune I wrote with some Fleck/Brown style banjo pickin'

  • Ashokan Farewell

    11/09/2010

A few hiccups but here is my 2nd attempt at recording. My son came in as I was recording and I desperately pulled some 'be quiet' faces..oh the trials of a recording star! Anyway, I love this tune and one day I hope to play it properly.

  • Woodchopper's Reel

    14/07/2010

aDADE, from Cyril Stinnett's (fiddle) version. Once through slowly in the style of a traditional (dotted rhythm) hornpipe, then through twice as a reel. See tabs on my BHO page for a tab of this version and for Bob Walters' version.
